Upcoming Telugu movies 2019

The 2019 Telugu movies have a lot to offer as many most-anticipated films are competing at box-office. Several biggies failed at Sankranthi race while the medium budget film F2 created magic by surpassing the collections of all other films. Check out the Telugu movies 2019 hits and flops.

The first season of the year, Sankranthi, is already over. NTR: Kathanayakudu impressed almost all Telugu critics and the audience rejected critics along with the film. The terrible biopic with fabricated reality manages to make it into the list of all-time disasters with the highest loss ever for a Telugu film as of now. The producers assured the distributors to return some amount along with the rights of its sequel NTR: Mahanayakudu. Now the sequel has the burden of pulling crowds to the theatre at any cost. If it fails too, then the distributors will go bankrupt as they have invested a lot on the film. This clearly indicates that not every biopic can be Mahanati. The next big release on Sankranthi season is Vinaya Vidheya Rama which faced negative reviews from Day 1 itself. Ram Charan apologized his fans for disappointing them. However, the moderate collections of the film gave a sigh of relief to the distributors and the producers returned some amount of the losses. Now Ram Charan is focussing solely on his upcoming film RRR, which may release during summer of 2020. Meanwhile, F2: Fun and Frustration became a sleeper hit by providing wholesome entertainment.

The next season is summer and there is only Maharshi set to release during this time. Mahesh Babu starrer Maharshi has huge expectations as the film is going to present him in multiple roles. The lack of serious competition during the season is another favourable aspect as the film can get good amount of theatres. A positive talk on the first day could create wonders at the box-office. The next major release is Prabhas starrer Saaho which is a multi-lingual project. The primary target of the film is Bollywood audience so the makers are planning for the release at the time of Independence Day. As this is the next film of Prabhas after Baahubali, the promotions are not much difficult. This is going to be huge even with an above average talk.

The next two major seasons are Dussehra and Deepawali. The big budget films generally target for a Dussehra release considering the holidays. However, Deepawali is good for medium-budget films. The year end is mostly meant for low-medium budget films. Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is set to release on Dussehra. However, the shooting is delayed for so long and the release date is tentative. Interestingly, both Saaho and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy are subsequent films of Prabhas and Chiranjeevi after their 2017 films Baahubali 2 and Khaidi No 150. Moreover, both are prestigious projects for them. Prabhas and Chiranjeevi formally launched their subsequent projects too. There is confusion over Allu Arjun’s next film. Although the makers have announced his film in collaboration with Trivikram Srinivas, it didn’t go to sets. Jr NTR will not have any releases this year as he is busy with the shooting of RRR which may take a while for completion.

Why Sukumar is one of the best Telugu directors?

Sukumar started his career with a romantic comedy film Arya. However, he started experimenting with his second film Jagadam itself. It has many equations and breakdown of violence. But it didn’t fit in the narrative and the film failed at box-office. His subsequent film was the sequel to blockbuster Arya. The film released amid many expectations and the audio was already blockbuster. However, it received negative talk from the first show itself. Sukumar draw attention of several actors and technicians for his characterizations and execution in the film. He moved on to the romance genre and delivered a hit with 100% love. He remained a medium range director by that time and couldn’t break into top-list.

His next film, 1 Nenokkadine, was a game changer. He moved to thriller genre and came up with a unique subject. It is a film he made with a lot of over-confidence. He took the audience for granted and penned whatever he felt is apt for the script. While the film is full of clichés and flaws, he lived in disbelief for so long. He wanted everyone to love the film regardless of the illogical scenes but many criticized him. Mahesh Babu received applause for accepting such a script. The thirst for smart thriller didn’t vanish and Sukumar came up with a revenge thriller, Nannaku Prematho. This time he added more commercial elements to it. Again, it is a film full of clichés and illogical scenes but managed to score commercial success. The audience and contemporary directors started showing sympathy for Sukumar that he didn’t get the success he deserves. However, he got success with his production through an unconventional film, Kumari 21F.

In 2018, he broke into the list of top Telugu directors with his rural revenge drama film, Rangasthalam. He took a great risk by portraying Ram Charan as a hearing-impaired guy. The script was well developed to cater to regular audience while not leaving Sukumar’s mark. Rangasthalam has many subtle elements that stay with the audience long after they leave the theaters. The characters are developed with a great care and the screenplay is as tight as that of Arya. Several elements of the film are connected to the central plot through multiple segments. The command of Sukumar over human psychology can be understood from his films. He continues to produce films even with a busy career as a director. He recently launched multiple projects introducing his assistant directors as directors. Regardless of the result of the films, Sukumar is revered as a director and continues to motivate upcoming directors.

Sukumar is currently working on a project with Mahesh Babu. It is their second collaboration after 1 Nenokkadine. Sukumar confirmed the project soon after the release of Rangasthalam but the script work is going on ever since. Mahesh rejected several scripts and he said to have accepted one lately. Sukumar will take 3-6 months to come up with a gripping screenplay to appeal to all sections of the audience. Sukumar regretted his decision to make an experimental film with Mahesh and wants to give him a solid hit. He has been waiting ever since and the film will reach all expectations. The combination draw attention of everyone and the satellite rights were sold for a huge amount. Sukumar is unstoppable after the success of Rangasthalam and now he only has to compete with SS Rajamouli. His next film will cement his position in Tollywood.
